Douglas and Zeta-jones to Make Monsoon Film in India

Thursday, January 29th, 2009
Aandaleeb Singh asked:

Over two decades after the original, Michael Douglas is making another sequel to his 1984 film Romancing the Stone. The first sequel, 1985’s Jewel of the Nile was a rather lacklustre movie, but the new sequel, which is called Racing the Monsoon, will feature Douglas’ Oscar-winning Welsh wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as Bourne Identity star Matt Damon, so it promises to be much better. Douglas and Zeta-Jones will be relocating to Indian in order to film the sequel in Mumbai, Kolkata and Jaisalmer and the film promises to provide a real boost to the already-thriving Indian film industry.

It is thought that Racing the Monsoon will be an action adventure movie that tells the story of a diamond heist that takes place onboard an Indian train. The film signifies the first fully-fledged Hollywood-Bollywood co-production to date.

Ms Zeta-Jones said that she was excited about shooting the film and spending some time in India, she said: “I’m looking forward to going to India. Michael and I are developing a script that will be set in India. We will take our kids and all of us will come there, set up camp in India and shoot a film.” Douglas also said that he was pleased to be going to India, declaring that he had been closely studying Indian culture. He said: “India is making a large impact in the US, be it culture, design, fashion or films which are splashed everywhere in the world. I have been closely following and studying Indian culture and I’m fascinated by it.”

Michael Douglas’ own production company, Further Films, and Indian production house Percept Picture Company (PPC), which is co-run by Shailendra Singh – a friend of Douglas’, will finance the £30 million film. Ms Singh said: “Michael being a friend, had approached us to partner him and we agreed. Percept will raise the cost for the Indian part of the production.” Michael said that he was happy to be working with the Percept Picture Company, he explained: “When the subject of films came up, Percept showed interest. As I was looking for partners in India to do films here, I was happy things worked out.”

Ms Singh believes that making Racing the Monsoon in India will have a positive impact on the Indian film industry as a whole. She said: “With more films like Racing the Monsoon coming to India, imagine the kind of exposure, interaction and employment that will be generated for Indian technicians and artists.”

Steve Carr is expected to be announced as director of Racing the Monsoon. His previous credits include Daddy Day Care, Next Friday and Doctor Doolittle 2.

Outdoor Adventure Travel

David T Smith asked:

Outdoor adventure travel! What does this mean? Many people are getting excited about outdoor adventure travel that entails a higher risk that normal travel has to offer. Outdoor adventure travel in not restricted to the young but the older generation is also taking part. There’s a trend among people who take regular travel a little boring, mundane or just to predictable. Many now seek out outdoor adventure travel that can put some interest back into their vacations.

When traveling the usual tourist route doesn’t raise any real excitement in travelers who see this type of travel as somewhat mundane. Outdoor adventure travel has changed the modern day traveler and has certainly got them thinking. With new ideas for outdoor adventure travel, blood has been sent to new high levels for the adventurous person.

When thinking about that next outdoor adventure travel just sends my blood rushing to new levels, I’m sure the same happens to you. There are many new opportunities just around the corner when traveling to the off the beaten track. Meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and different places to see.

Outdoor adventure travel is certainly different and provides for something very unique when visiting popular tourist destinations. Lets say we traveled to the Caribbean which means visiting the same beaches, living in the hotels that do not provide anything new, travel down the same road that hundreds of other tourist do daily. But thinking of out of the way places in the Caribbean can produce some interesting activities.

You don’t have to be bogged down with the same activities while in the Caribbean. Take a eco-trek into the tropical rain forests, go bird watching are just a few ideas. Go see the local in their surroundings. You will see different costumes that the locals wear, the food and their culture.

Don’t overlook Australia for you outdoor adventure travel. There are many interesting sights and places to see in the outback. You could balloon across the continent, snorkel or scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef. Australia has a lot to offer for your next outdoor adventure travel.

Don’t for one moment think that outdoor adventure travel is restricted to the young. That is not the case. Young and old alike are seeking new experiences that only outdoor adventure travel con offer. Your imagination is the only limiting factor.

Film Review: Congo

Monday, January 19th, 2009
Kevin L. Powers asked:

CONGO was meant to cash in on the popularity of the JURASSIC PARK film since both were based on best selling novels by Michael Crichton, but without the awe and mystery of giant stories roaming around this film had to rely more on the adventure of going to exotic Africa on a grand adventure. Marketed as an killer apes adventure flick the film was misunderstood and quickly forgotten upon its initial release.

Taking a look back at the film there is much to be had and much to be desired in the film. Although Stan Winston provided the apes for this film (like he’s done so for almost every Hollywood film that features an ape in the past few decades) Amy, the ape in this film, is slightly dated and not as realistic as even the apes Winston provided in GREYSTOKE, THE LEGEND OF TARZAN or GORILLAS IN THE MIST, which are both much older films.

Directed by Frank Marshall the adventure aspects of the film still hold up well especially since the ensemble cast of mid-level actors, at the time, (Laura Linney, Dylan Walsh, Ernie Hudson, Tim Curry, and Grant Heslov) all work extremely well together. This camaraderie is what holds the bare-bones plot together and keeps the film moving along in an alarming rate.

Another thing that works in the films favor is the exotic location and Marshall insistence to use the continent of Africa as a character herself. The biggest adventure of the film is the journey to their final destination and all the obstacles that get in their way. Expertly staged these are the aspects of the film that make it an enjoyable adventure film of which many lesser films fail to accomplish.

The Benefits of Personalized Adventure Travel Planning

Friday, January 16th, 2009

What type of adventures appeal to you? The kind where you push your body or your mind? Adventure travel is not one thing to all people. Some people would be thrilled and exhilarated to raft down a river in Colorado. For other people, that’s a regular weekend activity. Not too adventuresome at all. Those people might love to try hang gliding or sky diving, while for the former person, this is tantamount to committing suicide. Obviously, these people’s definitions of adventure travel vary greatly.

That’s what’s so great about it, though. You can tailor-make a vacation to fit your wants and needs. You just have to know what you want, and where you want to go. Write up a list of the top ten or so things you want to experience in your life and that will get you started as you look through all the fabulous opportunities out there for adventure travel.

If you want a life of adventure, there are any number of adventure trips you can take that will do that. You can try bicycling along the Tour de France route or hiking fourteen miles in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. How about zipping at 30 miles per hour on a wire line strung between two trees in the jungle, catching air on your snowboard in a Super pipe or white water rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon? Parasailing, riding in a bi-plane or piloting a fighter plane, and rock climbing up a sheer canyon side each provide different thrills too. If you’re out for thrills, think carefully about the extent of adventure you’ll really enjoy.

Does this sound like too much adrenalin for you? Floating overhead in a hot air balloon while watching lions stalk prey on the plains below or walking through Cambodia’s Angkor Thom, where temple ruins nearly smothered by giant trees, are gentler styles of adventure travel. So is walking on trails through the Amazon jungle looking at parrots or catching sight of caimans (types of alligators) sleeping on the river banks at night. To the more laid-back person, this is about adventuresome as you can get.

Adventurous trips are not necessarily something that puts your life at risk. They are travels that change you, enchant you and ensure memories for a lifetime. Some travelers go for the physical thrills and the opportunities that stretch a body’s physical capabilities to the utmost degree. Other travelers would rather use their minds, eyes, hearing and cameras to enhance their experiences.

Each person’s definition of adventure travel is unique. What’s yours? Just don’t go on a trip that has activities that you would never participate in. Remember, what is adventuresome to you, might not be to someone else. If you’re still deciding, call up a few travel agents for ideas, or visit your local library for exotic places to visit and things to do. Scour the web for packages and deals, and before you know it, you’ll be having the time of your life, doing what you’ve always wanted to do.

For Adventure Travel, This Works Like Crazy

Randy Swanston asked:

For some people, the perfect vacation is to find a five star hotel or beach where you can every whim catered to and every indulgence fulfilled. Others may seek a more family style excursion with amusement parks and theme parks. And yet others may opt for a cruise or other entertainment vacation. However there are those who desire to go “where no man has gone before”. There are those who enjoy walking on the wild side. For these people, there exists adventure travel.

Adventure travel may take you kayaking in Glacier Bay, Alaska. You may choose to go canoeing and camping in the boundary waters of Northern Minnesota. You may choose to travel the world always seeking the path less traveled. You may travel to the rainforests of the Amazon or the Sahara Desert. You may go on an African Safari or mountain climbing in Tibet.

Beginners can get started in adventure travel easily. Many places offer guided and equipped tours into adventure areas. Experienced outfitters can provide you with all the equipment and the guide you need to start in adventure travel. More experienced adventures may plan their own trips and use their own equipment.

Adventure travel may also include ecotravel or travel with a purpose. Perhaps your adventure travel vacation could include a visit to an African refugee camp or helping to feed the hungry in a third world nation.

Perhaps your adventure travel will take to you to South America visiting ruins of the ancient Aztec civilization. Maybe your adventure travel will take you to the pyramids of Egypt.

Adventure travel is about discovering something new. Perhaps the adventure is the sport and the activity such as kayaking, canoeing, camping, mountain climbing, hiking and more. But adventure travel is not limited to sport. Adventure travel includes adventures in science visiting the Antarctic or the Amazon rainforest. Adventure travel includes discovering history in the Middle East or South America. Adventure travel can take you into the depths of winter or into the heat of summer.

No matter where you go or what you do, adventure travel is all about traveling on the road less traveled, learning about the world, learning about other people and other cultures. Adventure travel can take you to the extremes. You can go to the most extreme and remote parts of the world. You can engage in extreme sports. You can visit extreme history.

There are many travel agents available to help you plan your next adventure travel vacation.
