And understandably so: The in-house skunkworks operation has provided Toyota with numerous titles at the legendary Baja 500 and 1000. That successful desert-racing legacy has provided Toyota with a foundation of knowledge to build its [...]

Sebastien Loeb will lead Rally Argentina by 7.2 seconds when the final leg commences on Sunday morning after an uneventful run through the superspecial that closed Saturday night’s action. Although day three kicks off with the challenge of the mammoth 65-kilometre Matadero-Ambul stage, Loeb looks secure in the lead with Citroen having asked him and second-placed team-mate Mikko Hirvonen to hold station given the lack of threat from behind.

Last spring, Ray LaHood’s office approached Streetsblog seeking reader questions for the transportation secretary’s monthly video blog series, On the Go With Ray LaHood. Romano Fenati claimed victory in only his second Moto3 race as mixed conditions produced a thrilling but treacherous race at Jerez. While Fenati ran at the front throughout, set a flurry of fastest laps at the end and lapped several riders on the way to a 30-second victory that also gave him the points lead, his win also owed to the high number of riders who fell foul of the circuit conditions – with just 17 riders able to finish the race. The tone of the race was set from the start, as three riders – including Jack Miller from second – all high-sided at the damp Turn 9.

Norbert Michelisz lived up to his billing as “Hungarian Sportsman of the Year,” as voted for by his country’s press, by achieving a shock maiden World Touring Car pole position at the series’ inaugural visit to the Slovakia Ring. The Zengo Motorsport racer gained a useful slipstream from championship leader Yvan Muller at the completion of his 2m12.990s pole lap, to the delight of a significant number of Hungarian fans. Lukoil Racing’s Alesksei Dudukalo also achieved his best WTCC qualifying result in second, to complete an unusual front row for Sunday’s opening race
